Painting Experience Preferred - Acrylic or Oils
Two paintings will be created in this course.
The first painting will guide students step-by-step through completing a painting of a pet (or animal) of their choice working from a photograph. Each student will be contacted prior to class for advice on starting with a strong photograph for a successful painting.
The second painting is a fundraising painting for Mission for Paws. One wooden panel, 18" x 24" will be available for free for each participating student from Art Supply on Alameda in Houston, TX. Students will be assigned photographs of donors pets to finish through completion by the end of the class for donation to raise money for Mission for Paws. Paintings will be collected at a drop-off location within Houston.
The pet portrait course will cover challenges such as likeness, colorful neutrals, color temperature, creating texture, and "stylizing" a painting.
Classes will include looking at images of paintings, handouts with instructional information, in-class critiques and demos.
