Urban and Suburban Landscape Painting
Paint the town in Urban and Suburban Landscapes! In this class, participants will elevate the mundane into memorable paintings of their daily surroundings.
The first day of class will focus on how to take great reference photos from our surroundings utilizing provided light as our greatest painting tool. We will strategize minimizing the value scale while organizing shapes to create engaging, mysterious, and personified architecture.
In each class, we will look toward art history for examples of painters who have utilized similar techniques in their own work. The class will focus on alla prima painting methods on small panels, allowing everyone to leave class with several finished works of art.
The essentials of color theory and neutralizing the painter’s palette will be discussed as a way to help create a story within each painting. This class is for both acrylic and oil painters. Demos will be created in oils.
